Video Streaming for mobile phones
Video streaming is more commonly associated with 3G mobile video, but
it is also possible to stream video over 2.5G networks. The Yamgo mobile
video player provides a demonstration of what is possible and works on
Java and Symbian mobile devices. By installing a small software application
on the device, videos can be streamed and protected from illegal copying
(OMA DRM 1.0 security). Streaming circumvents the need to download the
entire video clip before it can be decoded and played, and offers near
real-time playing of content. However, this depends on the size and bit
rate of the video and the user connection speed. The Yamgo video player
is installed on the phone using WAP download and videos are ordered by
Premium SMS on a pay-per-download or subscription model. If you live in
the UK, you can download the Yamgo video player.

The Yamgo mobile video player for mass
market Java phones such as the Nokia 3100, Sharp GX20, or Siemens SL65
enables streaming and downloading of video to mobile phones over GSM data
connections allowing people to watch videos on their mobile phone anytime.
To maximise device compatibility, videos need to remain less than 68k,
which gives up to 12 seconds of video playback. During the buffering stage
of the video streaming a ticker is displayed at the top of the screen
to tell the viewer what the video is called or information about the clip.
The Java player has over-the-air installation and configuration, menu-driven
user interface, playlists, good video quality and a 72 hour licence to
watch the video as many times as the user wants. The Yamgo Video Player
