3GP, MPEG-4 & Real Player Video for Mobile Phones
3GPP and 3GPP2 are the new worldwide standards for the creation, delivery
and playback of multimedia over 2.5G (GPRS) and 3G high-speed wireless
networks. MPEG-4 (.mp4) and Real Player (.rm) formats are also becoming
widely supported, but 3GP offers the best compatibility. Defined by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project and
3rd Generation Partnership Project 2 respectively, these standards seek
to provide a standardised format for the unique requirements of mobile
devices. 3GPP and 3GPP2 utilise of MPEG-4 technology, the standard for
delivery of video and audio over the Internet. You can also play .3GP
files on your PC using the QuickTime player from apple.
